Oh C'mon local TV stations: leave the astronomers alone

The Minnesota Astronomical Society - all volunteers - holds regular star parties at Baylor Park and today is Astronomy Day. They have several large telescopes, computerized, a classroom and volunteers to explain the sky. They have these parties twice a month between March and November and usually draw a large crows. Many high school students who probably have to be there to earn a grade..

But today the park was swamped with trucks from all the local news stations. No, not to cover the Astronomy Day, but about the tragic drowning of a teen yesterday evening. They kept pestering the members of the society for some kind of a reaction which they really could not provide. They don't know anything about Eagle Lake or the camping ground. All they know is about the observatory and the events there and they really do not need to be associated with anything else.

So leave them alone, okay?
