AG (Lori Swanson) is going after sellers of extended warranty for cars

We have been contacted by her office that we are entitled to refund after a settlement with Enterprise Financial Group.

Yes, several years ago we signed with Precise - one of the names/subsidiaries - to purchase a warranty. It was our credit card - Capital One - that immediatly called us and emailed alerting us. So we canceled the agreement and the payment. We also contacted the FCC that told us exactly what to do and that was it. We've never heard from them again.

Still, since someone from the office of the AG called us a few weeks ago, I told her that the blame go to the DVS that "provides" name of owners, addresses, cars and VIN numbers. I actually exchanged emails with the dept and got a reply of legalese that what they do is within a permission and I got a copy of that document. We've been getting many of these "offers," all with "warning" of "urgent' etc. One of them actually had our name and "or current resident." Right, if an when someone will buy our house that buyer will also get the car...

The AG rep acknowledged that, yes, they do get complaint about that.

Still, I also blame the dealer, too. Originally we refused to purchase extended warranty. And then, shortly after it expired, the car needed a major repair and service dept. did sneak it under a warranty. Shortly after that we get a letter from the dealer about extended warranty and decided that, perhaps, we should consider it. And shortly after we got the letter we got the call. I call it suspicious coincidence. But after we realized this was not a valid warranty, we called Toyota and they told us it was not them.

I keep getting mail from some shady outfit warning me that my warranty has expired and offering to sell me one. Wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole. All those "warranty" outfits are crooks.

I use the term "provide" generously. I asked them whether they sell the info and they never denied it.

I am not familiar with how laws and regulations get enacted, but it would be nice if her office will initiate the banning of this practice by the DVS.
