Minnesota Poll: Sen. Tina Smith leads Jason Lewis in U.S. Senate race

Democratic U.S. Sen. Tina Smith holds a lead over Republican challenger Jason Lewis in her bid for a full six-year term in the U.S. Senate, according to a new Star Tribune/MPR News/KARE 11 Minnesota Poll.

With Election Day less than six weeks away, Minnesota voters said they prefer Smith by an eight-point margin, 49% to 41%. But 10% of voters remain undecided.

Smith’s current lead appears to be bolstered by strong support in Hennepin and Ramsey counties, where nearly seven in 10 voters back her bid. But she trails Lewis, a former congressman and radio personality, by six percentage points in the outer Twin Cities suburbs, home to politically decisive swing districts. She also trails by more than 20 percentage points in Northern Minnesota.

The two candidates are running neck-and-neck in southern Minnesota, where Lewis leads 46% to 44%. The rivals have tangled frequently over agricultural issues, including farm subsidies, as both vie for the vote in farm country.

(snip)

Like many leading Democrats, Smith has centered her campaign on issues such as controlling the coronavirus crisis and expanding health care access. She recently appeared alongside Democratic nominee Joe Biden at an event promoting labor and infrastructure in Duluth. Lewis has campaigned as an ardent Trump supporter, echoing the president’s messages on law and order.

Smith’s lead over Lewis closely resembles the Minnesota Poll results showing Biden ahead of Trump 48% to 42%, though Smith narrowly outperformed Biden in her matchup against Lewis.

He got his start as a small-market Rush Limbaugh and he's continued his career as a nasty, racist asshole.

He vould be the 2nd no chance in hell candidate to die in Minnesota, the only state where that could actually hurt the surviving candidate. Does anyone know the cause of death for Adam Weeks, the 3rd party candidate that died in Angie Craig's district. He was 38 years old. I cannot find anything online.

Its a shame the way we do elections doesn't allow for a meaningful third party challenge.

Even 38-year-olds sometimes do die suddenly of natural causes, you know.

I am suggesting there is only one state in the country where the death of a 3rd party candidate or their, certain to lose, own R candidate could help the Reptillicon party, Minnesota.

What you do not seem to grasp, and no else seems to grasp, is the true value of Adam Weeks' death and/or Jason Lewis' potential death. Angie Craig and Tina Smith are virtual locks to win. Unfortunately, we have a law that could throw those elections into question because the death of a major party candidate this close to the election requires a special election in February, which would leave the house seat open and the Senate seat in limbo, where we do not know the limits of McConnell's deceit in refusing to seat an interim appointment.

I am aware a court has reinstated the house seat election, but how long until that ends up on the Supreme Court docket? How do you think they will rule on that?

Now, for the kicker, should they throw that house election out, the seat would be open making the MN house delegation 4-3 dem advantage, pending the upcoming election. Collin Peterson is likely to lose his Dem seat. Meaning, R's could steal the delegation advantage 4-3 for a full vote should the presidential election fall to the house of representatives.

I am not paranoid, I have just been watching for 20 yeaes as these criminals continually reach new depths of depravity. There is no floor, there is no line, and it seems there is no one paying attention. So, I ask again, how did 38 year old Adam Weeks die and can we trust that the cause of death was accurately determined?

He was already running on the spoiler ticket of Minnesota. Everyone around here knows that the marijuana party is a Republican front meant to syphon democratic votes. Some of them do not even try to hide it.

The Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office listed Weeks’ death as a result of substance abuse, caused by ethanol and fentanyl toxicity. He was recruited by the GOP and offered $15,000 to run against Angie Craig, which isn't surprising, but he wasn't murdered. With respect to the Supreme Court, the question of the special election has already gone there; today Gorsuch, of all people, denied the GOP's appeal.

Weeks’ sudden death on Sept. 21 triggered a legal battle over the timing of the Second District election, with Republicans arguing a special election should be held in February. State law requires a delay if a major party candidate dies within 79 days of the election. But the U.S. Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, who handles emergency requests from the federal appeals court that oversees Minnesota, denied the request from Kistner on Tuesday.

So, the fake 3rd party candidate pretending to be a liberal, that is on the Republican dole and leaving voicemails about it, died by "accidental overdose?" Yeah, nothing to see here. Fentanyl is just about the easiest way to "accidently" kill someone.

By the way, the Supreme Court denied intervention for now, but the case will be before the 8th circuit, on the merits, after the election.

Better hope we take the Hagedorn seat to offset Collin Peterson. The Minnesota Republican party is quietly one of the most vicious and corrupt state parties in the country. I put nothing past the party of Jason Lewis.
