Gun control group Everytown spending big on Minnesota Senate

Everytown Action Fund, the gun control group, is spending an eye-popping $1 million in late money on direct mail and digital ads, to flip the Minnesota Senate. The centerpiece of the program is a direct mail piece written by Rolf Olson, a Savage, Minn., pastor whose daughter was murdered when she answered a Craigslist ad looking for a babysitter. The killer used his father’s handgun. Here’s the letter that’s going into battleground districts including that of gun control opponent state Sen. Warren Limmer.

As an American, I knew gun violence existed. But I never thought that it would touch my family. Most people don’t, until it’s too late.

I asked Bryan Strawser of the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus what he thinks of this effort and how they’re countering it and will report back what I hear.

A bit more from a July Times story on Everytown:

Everytown remains largely backed by (Michael) Bloomberg, the billionaire former mayor of New York, but it has an increasing number of outside contributors, including Connie Ballmer, the wife of the former Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer. Ms. Ballmer gave $7 million in April.
