I know someone who works in the ER at a hospital in Minneapolis

Last night they were having to divert ambulances because the ER was swamped mostly with what appeared to be Covid cases. She said things had really dropped off for a few months but have been ramping up the last few weeks.

'The wave is coming up upon us': Critical care doctors already feeling effects of COVID surge, 11/6/20

In the Twin Cities, 98 percent of ICU beds are in use this week, as are 97 percent of general hospital beds. Statewide, there’s slightly more space — but not much.

And while a state dashboard shows there’s still some wiggle room in hospital bed capacity, state and hospital officials say that the prospect of labor shortages is making it increasingly difficult to staff even the beds that are available.

“Staffing is becoming an increasing problem,” Dotseth said. “Staff are sick, staff are caring for others who are sick, and staff are in quarantine because of a community exposure.

On Friday, Health Partners said it is rescheduling elective procedures and surgeries and transferring care to other locations across its system to meet patient needs, while allowing for as many free ICU beds as possible.

Out State is in real tough shape. Local Facilities have zero to extremely little ICU space to start with. Stabilize packem down and ship them to the Cities is the standing orders for most of the out State.

before things got busy again. I hope this will be a short duration and I hope those who are getting this second wave remember two things. One, that we are all praying for you. and two, that anyone you see without a mask bears partial blame for this, and you should treat them accordingly.

I just left an ER shift, and it hit me.

Healthcare providers will be respected for tirelessly working to save lives, not accused of falsifying diagnoses or profiteering off a horrible pandemic.

We will have a partner working with us, not against us.

It already feels so good.

AND MANY MORE ARE ON THE WAY
It's amazing how the latest outbreak makes everything that has gone before look so small, like a caterpillar crawling on the ground. What once seemed like massive peaks and steep declines now seem like nothing much at all:
