Jackson Mayor Lumumba Tests Positive for COVID-19, Urges Masks and Boosters
Following a routine home test, City of Jackson Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday morning, Dec. 21, 2021, and is quarantining at home.
Executive Writer Justin Vicory sent an email to the press at 11:55 a.m. today saying that the mayor had been fully vaccinated and received a booster shot at the time he tested positive for the virus. He is now awaiting results from a separate PCR test to confirm the result, the mayors office said.
Lumumba led a press briefing outdoors at 2602 Medgar Evers Boulevard on Monday where he updated the public on the roads construction and answered questions about the state of security in the City.
He initially wanted to notify his immediate family of the test results before sending a news release to the media, Vicory wrote.
