U.S. Supreme Court axes suit over Mississippi flag

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected an appeal from an African-American attorney who called the Confederate battle emblem on the Mississippi flag an official endorsement of white supremacy.

The justices did not comment as they ended a lawsuit by lawyer Carlos Moore that sought to have the flag declared an unconstitutional relic of slavery.

Mississippi has used the same flag since 1894. Its the last state banner featuring the Confederate symbol, a red field topped by a blue tilted cross dotted by 13 white stars. Critics say the symbol is racist. Supporters say it represents history.

Moore said Monday that he has received five death threats because of the lawsuit and three death threats because he removed the Mississippi flag from his courtroom after he became a Clarksdale city judge. He said hes disappointed but not surprised that the justices chose not to consider the case.

1. That's too bad.

And it shows a colossal lack of understanding of the symbols of racism on the part of the Supreme Court.

2. I agree with the attorney about that symbol. But I'm not sure it's an issue for SC.

I'm for removing monuments, confederate flags at local and state level.

The damn state of Mississippi needs to burn every damn one of those flags and apologize for ever flying it. But what good is the SC going to do with the ignorant white wing racists that have allowed that damn thing fly over the capitol?

3. So your copy of the constitution...

... is also missing the "relic of slavery" clause?
