After two police shootings Sunday, Gov.-elect Eric Greitens calls for a 'Blue Alert' law

Following two police shootings on Sunday in Missouri, Gov.-elect Eric Greitens on Monday urged support for law enforcement officers across the state and said he'd work with state legislators to create a public notification system designed to track down people suspected of shooting cops.

The system, known as "Blue Alert," would be similar to the Amber Alerts issued for missing children and Silver Alerts for missing senior citizens, Greitens said in a news release that cited two instances of police officers being shot on Sunday, one in Kansas City's Gladstone suburb and another in south St. Louis.

The Kansas City Star reported that an officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries after a passenger fled from a traffic stop and shot the officer after a chase. A suspect was shot and killed.

A suspect in the St. Louis shooting also was shot and killed, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. In this case, the shooter was believed to have specifically targeted the police officer, who was expected to live after being shot twice in the face.
