Uncertainty about legislative session, funding worries K-12, college leaders
As the 2017 legislative session nears, K-12 and higher education leaders in southwest Missouri say they don't yet have any idea what to expect.
Education officials experienced a certain level of year-to-year predictability during the tenure of Gov. Jay Nixon, who made public education a priority. They worked together on key topics such as funding, capital projects and targeted programs.
The Republican Gov.-elect, Eric Greitens, has been fairly tight-lipped on the specifics of his education agenda and what the public education sector can expect after he takes office.
Since the November election shake-up, many Springfield-area education leaders have redoubled efforts to strengthen existing relationships with lawmakers, forged new connections with incoming representatives and reached out to the governor-elect.
