After 4 domestic violence calls in Maplewood, city banned woman from living there, lawsuit claims
MAPLEWOOD • A second lawsuit was filed Friday claiming the city of Maplewood violates the law by targeting crime victims or victims of domestic violence with nuisance ordinances.
The suit was filed in U.S. District Court in St. Louis by the American Civil Liberties Union against the city, City Manager Martin Corcoran, Police Chief Stephen Kruse and Director of Public Works/Assistant City Manager Anthony Traxler.
It says that Maplewood banned a disabled woman, Rosetta Watson, from getting housing for six months after she was the victim of domestic violence four times.

The suit says that Maplewood’s enforcement of its ordinances violates Watson free speech rights as well as her right to equal protection under the law and the federal Violence Against Women Act.
