Medicaid expansion could reduce benefits to some 25,000 Nebraskans now on the program

LINCOLN ó The stateís plan for carrying out voter-approved Medicaid expansion could mean taking away some health care services from about 25,000 low-income Nebraskans.

Thatís because Department of Health and Human Services officials intend to switch some people currently covered by traditional Medicaid into a two-tier system being created for newly eligible Nebraskans.

The new system, called the Heritage Health Adult Program, would have different benefits and more stringent requirements than existing Medicaid.

Plans for switching the current Medicaid recipients were tucked into an April 1 concept paper describing the administrationís vision for the new system.

To make your Medicaid benefits complicated to determine and make sure you jump through enough hoops so that maybe you'll just give up and save the state some money.
