Nevada lawmakers may bring back a vetoed bill to boost oversight of Tesla-style tax breaks
There was something different about Assembly Bill 444.
Unlike two other measures scuttled this year by Gov. Steve Sisolak, AB 444 had no prior veto history and did not spark a backlash among worried constituents. Nor did it stir much controversy among lawmakers.
The bill would have created a legislative committee to take a closer look at high-profile state tax breaks given to companies such as Tesla, Amazon and Google.
Supporters said that panel could offer important insights into Nevada’s often controversial business-baiting efforts, and help answer long-running questions about which companies deserve taxpayer help.
They said AB 444 might even save the state some money by allowing lawmakers greater flexibility to change or eliminate ineffective incentive programs.
