Democrat-controlled Legislature attempts to override vetoes
CONCORD, N.H. -- New Hampshire lawmakers are returning to Concord to try to override more than 50 vetoes issued by Republican Gov. Chris Sununu this year.
The House session is scheduled to start Wednesday. The Senate will convene Thursday.
Democrats control both chambers, but they need Republican support to reach the two-thirds majority required to override a veto. Very few of the 55 vetoed bills originally passed the House by that margin.
Sununu said in a statement released ahead of the sessions that he signed 333 bills, or nearly 84% of the total number. He said he vetoed "extreme bills that have no place in New Hampshire."
