I don't have an article or a link--

but the NM Senate just passed a bill that would prohibit people from open carry in the state capitol building.

One of the sponsors was a Republican, and a few Democrats were against it. I watched it on the legislature webcam. It went on for hours, on a Saturday no less.

Prior to today, I was not aware that anyone could open carry there. One senator insisted that tourists come to NM to see its culture, including open carry, and for that reason open carry should remain an option in the state capitol building.

Gotta love New Mexico!

1. So the Second Amendment is suspended in the Capitol?

If it applies everywhere, let people carry everywhere.

4. They could still carry, but it would have to be concealed carry only.

The intention behind the bill is that people are intimidated by guns, and some in the legislature, Republicans and Democrats, don't want people walking around carrying openly.

I just posted a link.

2. I live in New Mexico...

and I hope this bill becomes law. Sorry, but I do not see anything funny about not being able to carry guns in the capital building.

5. They can still carry. Just not openly.

You should see the archived video on the legislature website. My hilarity results from this culture and what I saw on the video today.

7. Good. I likewise live in NM

and am totally opposed to open carry. Everywhere.

If guns truly made us safer then this would be just about the safest country on earth. And it's not.

8. There are differing views of open carry vs. concealed,

but the argument for this bill is that at least with CC, the carrier has had a background check and some training.

I also suspect that the proponents of the bill (rightfully so) are tired of the intimidation factor. One Republican senator described a situation in which a citizen displaying a firearm became very argumentative in the senator's office--the senator basically had to not only ask him to leave, but demand that he leave, etc..

And by the way, I agree with you.
