car burglar

At 5 P.M. Saturday, KOB4 TV Albuquerque news reported a car burglar ‘broke into’ two unlocked cars “on” (?) Hodgin and stole a cell phone and a debit card.

Seriously folks, there is nowhere you should be leaving your car unlocked,
and nowhere you should be leaving a cell phone and debit card in your car.

Recently a man who works at my apartment complex had his checkbook stolen from his unlocked car,
having left the checkbook on the dashboard of his car overnight.

Come on people!

Not the lock/unlock. Rather the leaving of checkbook on the dash overnight (locked or not). . nt Bernardo de La Paz Sep 2018 #6

lock your car. If someone wants something in it they will just break the window to get it so don't leave anything of value in your car.

BMWs were a very popular target for people who wanted their car radios. I had just gotten married and was borrowing my father-in-law’s BMW, and it was broken into and the radio stolen. The joke going around at the time was people would leave a note on the car saying that there was no radio. The joke was that the window would still be broken and the burglar would write below that note, just checking.

You say that so many people sleepwalk through life. OK, here’s a question for our fellow DUers: what kind of neighborhood do you live in and do you lock your car at night?

Prior to it becoming a “I know something you don’t know” clique, I was simply amazed by the number of “item stolen from unlocked car” reports each month. This included guns and other valuables. I cannot understand for the life of me, why anyone would leave valuables in an unlocked vehicle.
