Hiding Letter Grades A Fine Option, Some Restaurants Say

Hundreds of restaurants around the city have been fined for not properly displaying their poor health inspection grades.

The city fined more than 1,300 city restaurants over the past year for keeping their grades out of sight.

Fifty-five percent of the restaurants had received the lowest grade of C, while 43 percent earned B grades.

Each one was fined $1,000, though the number cited for hiding the grades actually dropped about 22 percent from the year before
