ALBANYTeachers' unions are planning an onslaught of online pop-up advertising for the Lake Placid area starting Sunday, accompanying their protest of an education conference hosted by a pro-charter school group.
The American Federation of Teachers, New York State United Teachers and labor-backed advocacy group Alliance for Quality Education are collaborating on the ad campaign. When users access the Internet from anywhere in Lake Placid on Sunday through Tuesday, opening many web pages will launch the pop-ups, an A.Q.E. spokesman told Capital.
The ads target Democrats for Education Reform, the political action committee for Education Reform Now, which is hosting the conference, dubbed Camp Philos. The unions accuse the group as being Democrats in name only." The ads highlight contributions from some of the group's corporate donors that critics argue are right-wing or anti-union, including Rupert Murdoch and the Walton Foundation.
