Rangel highlights vague charge against Espaillat

Azi Paybarah

Rep. Charlie Rangel’s campaign is running ads highlighting indirect accusations of inappropriate behavior by the campaign of his main challenger, State Senator Adriano Espaillat.

“Who would harass a woman who wants to represent us in Congress in the middle of the night?” reads a web ad with a “Paid for and Authorized by Rangel for Congress” disclaimer.

An image of the ad was forwarded to me by a source. I shared that image with the Rangel campaign and a spokesman there confirmed they are addressing the allegations against Espaillat in paid ads.

It’s the first time the Rangel campaign has publicly latched onto the accusations against Espaillat, who came close to defeating Rangel in a Democratic primary two years ago.
