New York's senior senator is facing blowback from environmental groups after remarks he made Monday that a majority of Democrats support the controversial drilling process known as hydrofracking.
"Overall, democrats throughout the country have supported fracking," Sen. Chuck Schumer told Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough Monday after being asked whether he would support fracking to revive the struggling upstate economy. "The president has, most of us have, and it's worked quite well."
Schumer went on to say that gas extraction must be done correctly and carefully, but if the Cuomo administration believes it can be done safely, he would support it (See video below).
"I haven't stepped on the governor's issue on this one, he's being very, very careful because there are environmental concerns," Schumer said.

In 2006 I supported Tasini against Hillary and that didn't turn out too well, he got 17% of the vote. Schumer is even more entrenched than Hillary was at the time, I doubt someone would give up a House seat to take a chance on a primary.

Rob Astorino's campaign is using statements made by U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer on natural gas exploration against Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Astorino's campaign usually sends out a video release featuring the Republican gubernatorial candidate, but they took a different approach Tuesday. Instead of sending out a new video, they directed reporters to a clip from Schumer's appearance Monday on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."
On the show, Schumer, D-N.Y., was asked about New York's hesitation on natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale region, which is located in the Southern Tier.
While Schumer said he hasn't "stepped on the governor's issue on this one" and acknowledged that Cuomo, a fellow Democrat, is "being very, very careful because there are environmental concerns," he touted national Democratic support for drilling.
