Obama Visiting Tappan Zee Bridge To Ask Congress For Cash For Roads, Bridges

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) – President Barack Obama is heading to the Tappan Zee Bridge on Wednesday to try to pressure Congress into giving America’s roads, bridges and ports an infusion of cash.

The crumbling bridge will be the setting for Obama’s call to action as crews work to replace the aging structure nearly six decades after being built at a cost of $3.9 billion, financed largely by bonds paid for through higher bridge tolls.

The president’s visit is part of a weeklong attempt by the White House to focus the nation’s attention on what the administration describes as a looming crisis that, left unfixed, could stifle economic growth and torment the nation’s commuters.

A $1.6 billion federal loan was recently approved to help pay for the Tappan Zee replacement project, which was on the drawing boards for over a decade until the White House put it on a list of fast-track projects in 2012.

host a fair and balanced discussion why oil and gas subsidies do not have to be paid for and infrastructure must be paid for.

The problem is not Obama's message, it is that the media choose to equal a message of reason with irrationality.
