Legislature earns average grades from green voters

The New York League of Conservation Voters has given the state Legislature a grade of "B-" for its progress on sustainability issues in the 2014 legislative session that ended last month.
"The Assembly and Senate deserve credit for their work on the critical issue of climate change and adaptation," said New York League of Conservation Voters Executive Director Marcia Bystryn. "But it is truly disappointing that the Legislature could not reach consensus on efforts to get toxic chemicals out of children's toys and products. It is hard to imagine a more fundamental responsibility for our elected officials than protecting children's health, and Albany's inaction means our kids are still at risk."
NYLCV's 2014 Environmental Progress Report tracks the Legislature's progress on a wide range of legislation, from clean energy and transportation, to climate resiliency and sustainable economic growth. The organization set the bar for sustainability progress in the 2014 legislative session with its policy agenda, which was issued in January.
