Anti-frackers Crash Cuomo fundraiser
By Cady Kuzmich
Riding the momentum of last week's New York state Court of
Appeals decision that upheld a municipality's right to ban hydraulic fracturing through the use of local zoning laws, hundreds of protesters gathered outside Gov. Andrew Cuomo's campaign fundraiser at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Manhattan June 30 to call on the governor to ban hydraulic fracturing in the Empire State.
Every time Governor Cuomo travels throughout the state, whether it's Manhattan or Syracuse or Buffalo or Long Island, we're there to greet him," said Seth Gladstone, communications director for Food and Water Watch and spokesman for New Yorkers Against Fracking.
"We expect hundreds and hundreds to be out on the street to let the governor know that until he bans fracking, we're not going anywhere," said Gladstone. "We have seen in poll after poll that a plurality of New Yorkers oppose fracking. We urge Cuomo to pass a ban in New York and put people's health and safety first," said Gladstone.
