The makers of Chicha Limena have agreed to stop touting their beverage as helping to fight cancer and diabetes.

“While soft drinks may market the advantages of their products, they may not make unsubstantiated claims that their products have the potential to prevent or cure serious health problems,” said state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

The drink’s makers, the Varas Group, had hung the health claims on the drink’s inclusion of purple maize extract, which has a high level of antioxidants.
