Schneiderman and Lawsky file restraining order against Lyft

ALBANY Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and Department of Financial Services superintendent Ben Lawsky filed a joint motion in New York's state Supreme Court seeking a temporary restraining order against ride-sharing service Lyft for operating in "open defiance of state and local licensing and insurance laws designed to protect the lives and well-being of New Yorkers."
Earlier this week, Lyft, an Uber competitor, announced it would begin operations in Brooklyn and Queens, despite not having the approval of the city's Taxi and Limousine Commission. Lyft executives have argued that its service is so innovative that current regulations governing its transportation services don't apply.
The filing from Schneiderman and Lawsky says Lyft began operating in Buffalo and Rochester in late April this year.
