City pols blast anti-Semitic banner flown above Brighton Beach and Coney Island

CORINNE LESTCH

New Yorkers enjoying the sunny weather in Brighton Beach and Coney Island on Saturday got a nasty airborne surprise — a plane towing a banner bearing a swastika-themed message.

The streamer said in symbols that a swastika plus peace equals love. Then it read, in all capital letters, “Proswastika.”

Councilman Mark Treyger (D-Brooklyn) said he received several complaints over the anti-Semitic aerial display.

Apparently it was an effort by the Raelians to redeem the symbol... According to the website on hte banner:
http://www.proswastika.org/news.php?item.472.1

The swastika-star is the chosen symbol of the Raelians.

dumber than a box of mute rocks, but i don't think the intent was to be hurtful.

But then "Raelian" and "good idea" aren't two terms found in each other's company very often anyway...

But I guess, who am I to talk, given that when I'm not an atheist, I'm worshipping trees

the Nazis stole it and eventually someone probably should rehabilitate it.

But now is probably not the best time.

In other words: someone had to commission the plane, fly the plane, register it, land it, etc etc etc.

No one seems interested. Weird.

EDIT: OK. I see Scootaloo's reply #1. That explains it. ( It's still pretty incredible.)
