ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- A longtime New York state senator says he won't run again, becoming the fourth Senate Republican to announce they are leaving the Legislature.
Sen. George Maziarz (MAZ'-ee-arz) of Niagara County made his announcement late Sunday night, saying he wasn't as enthusiastic about mounting a campaign as he had been in the past. The 61-year-old was first elected to the Senate in 1995.
Three other Republican senators have announced this year they won't seek re-election in the fall. Sen. Greg Ball honored a term limits pledge. Sen. Lee Zeldin is running for Congress and Charles Fuschillo left the Senate to become executive director of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
Senate Republican Leader Dean Skelos praised Maziarz' service on Monday and said Republicans expect to hold onto his seat in the fall elections.

A former top aide to Republican Sen. George Maziarz received a subpoena from U.S. Attorney Preet Bhararas office, her attorney confirmed to Capital Tonight.
The subpoena was first reported by The Times Unions Capitol Confidential.
In a statement, attorney Dan French said Alisa Colatarci is cooperating with federal prosecutors and is not the target of an investigation.
Alisa received a subpoena several weeks ago from the US Attorney in the Southern District of New York regarding Senator Maziarz, including his campaign committee. Alisa is not a target of the investigation and has cooperated fully, French wrote in an email.

The retirement of western New York Republican Sen. George Maziarz will have no impact on the GOPs efforts of retaining control in the chamber, Senate Republican Leader Dean Skelos said Monday in a statement.
The last thing hardworking taxpayers want is an all-Democrat, all-New York City run state government free to push their liberal tax-and-spend agenda on the people of New York, Skelos said this morning. Our priorities are the peoples priorities, and we expect to retain this seat and win a clear majority in the November elections.
