Four vying for NYC Board of Elections seat

CELESTE KATZ

Four people vying to become the newest Board of Elections commissioner will line up to be grilled by the City Council in a series of private interviews Wednesday, the Daily News has learned.

As those who've been following our coverage will recall, a slot opened up when Manhattan Democratic Commissioner Gregory Soumas -- who had also served as president of the 10-member bipartisan board, quit July 11.

Soumas was already a marked man when he sent in his one-line resignation: Manhattan Democratic Party Chairman and state Assemblyman Keith Wright had pushed to keep Soumas on.

But the City Council -- capitalizing on Wright's having missed a 2012 renomination deadline -- said it had the power to ignore Wright and consider its own nominees.
