Maloney, Gibson urge FERC to abandon capacity zone

David Giambusso

Hudson Valley congressmen Chris Gibson, a Republican, and Sean Patrick Maloney, a Democrat, sent a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission this week urging them to abandon the Lower Hudson Valley Capacity Zone.

The letter comes on the heels of an amendment to an energy appropriations bill in the House that would rescind funding for F.E.R.C to enforce the zone, which raises energy prices closer to New York City to incentivize generators to move and relieve transmission problems.

"Because F.E.R.C. continued to ignore public outcry on this misguided decision we recently worked together on bipartisan legislative efforts during consideration of [the appropriations bill]," Gibson and Maloney wrote in the July 21 letter. "Our amendment easily passed and represents the opposition of the House of Representatives to the designated capacity zone."
