Letitia James: Poll sites plagued by problems for disabled voters

ERIN DURKIN

Voting sites with inadequate ramps, narrow doors, and poorly placed machines are making it tough for many disabled New Yorkers to vote, according to a report by Public Advocate Letitia James and the Center for the Independence of the Disabled in New York.

Half of the polling sites checked out by James’ staff during June’s primary election had major problems with disabled access, and none of the six sites were deemed 100% accessible.

And when CIDNY visited 80 sites during last November’s general election, 66% of them had barriers for disabled voters.
