ALBANYLaw professor Zephyr Teachout is refuting a court challenge to her residency, and has filed a legal countermotion to validate her place on the Democratic primary ballot challenging Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Teachout's attorney, Lawrence Mandelkera former campaign treasurer for Ed Kochrebuffed the Cuomo-backed challenge in a court filing, insisting that Teachout has been a member of the [Fordham] faculty since August, 2009 and is duly qualified to be elected to the public office of governor.
State law requires a gubernatorial candidate to have been a state resident for five years before they can seek the office. In a court challenge filed in Brooklyn on Tuesday, attorney Marty Connor argued that Teachout has indicia of residence in other states, including Vermont, since 2009.
