Bounced Supreme Court delegates sue elections board

Jordan Carleo-Evangelist

The battle to represent the Democratic Party on the Third Judicial District's state Supreme Court ballot this year is headed to ... state Supreme Court.

Nearly two dozen judicial delegates and their alternates supporting Family Court Judge Margaret "Peggy" Walsh are suing the Albany County Board of Elections to be reinstated to September's primary ballot, arguing the board overstepped its authority and violated their civil rights.

The county's elections commissioners tossed two-thirds of the pro-Walsh slate on Tuesday after allies of party-backed candidate Justin Corcoran challenged their ballot petitions on the grounds that Walsh is simultaneously campaigning for state Supreme Court and running for re-election to Family Court.

Democratic Commissioner Matthew Clyne and his Republican counterpart, Rachel Bledi, agreed that violates state law.
