NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) Mayor Bill de Blasio says now is the time to transform police-community relations in New York City.
The mayor hosted a roundtable meeting at City Hall Thursday with Police Commissioner Bill Bratton, the Rev. Al Sharpton and members of the community on how to reform the NYPD.
The discussion was prompted by the death of Eric Garner earlier this month. The 43-year-old father of six died in police custody on Staten Island after he had been stopped by police for allegedly selling loose, untaxed cigarettes.
In cell phone video of the incident, an officer is seen placing his arm around Garners neck in an apparent chokehold and then taking him to the ground after Garner refuses to be handcuffed.

(5,644 posts)do you train someone to stop choking someone when that person tells them eleven times that they can't breath!...that's b.s.
And as Sharpton told him, that his son too is a candidate for one of those deadly choke holds.
