44 Amazing NYC Places That Actually Still Exist

The Strand, McSorleys, Julius, Zabar's, St Mark's Comics, Katz Deli, Dublin House, Jackson Diner, the beer hall in Astoria, Ottomanelli & Sons, Schaller & Weber, Barney Greengrass, and Eisenberg's all made the list.

Love the tuna melt and milkshakes at Eisenberg's, the imperial (19 oz) pints at Dublin House, and the samples at Zabar's. All the places on this list are what makes New York New York:

I lived a few blocks from it for most of my childhood. Amazing place, I still remember the home-made chocolate chip ice cream and handmade whipped cream, such distinctive and rich tastes.

I spent a lot of really nice times in that place. Glad to see it is still there.

I think I will go visit it next trip to NYC.

I have a lot of books to this day that I bought at the Strand.

Now, I love NYC, but I take issue with #17. B&H on 9th and 34th.

That USED to be Sloane House YMCA. My college rented floors there for student dorms. Other art schools in NYC did as well.

OH MY the stories that could and should be told. YMCA sold the building and B&H moved into the bottom floor and the rest of the building was turned into condos/apts.

Sloane house was an immense building that house Art School students, it served as an international hostel, a YMCA and was an amazing place while I spent time there. I was there from 1985 until 1989.

I worked in the hospitality center that welcomed international students looking for a place to stay at the Hostel.
