I hope your family enjoys this storm. It should be awesome if they can stay inside.

our 45-year-old windows with double-pane thermals a few years ago. You'll feel the difference. Before, I'd see the curtains blowing when I had the windows closed! You also will cut down on energy use - I use the a/c less.

Northern Queens and just saw that the roads near Kennedy Airport at the southern end are flooding.

I always harken back to the blizzard of 78 - Massachusetts - in the wisdom of the company I worked for -(can't really blame them - we didn't know due to a lack of modern weather technology) we left work at 3pm - depending on where you were, and where you had to go, determined your time of arrival at home..some did not make it home due to being snowed in on the highway..

All one needs to do is look at the pics from the blizzard of 78 Mass.-

My trek took me from Braintree RT 128N - to I95S - to RT 495N - and home to Holliston Mass..boy, that ramp onto I95S was sure icy - as I rounded the bend to go south and under the 128 bridge "wham" - skid to the right, bumped the bridge abutment, then straight into a car at the end of a traffic jam - like slow motion - no damage to either vehicle due to slow rate of speed..just momentum forward - Cellphone you ask? - Nope..

The fellow got out of his car - most brave - to make sure I was okay - a very quick assessment, not even exchanging info, he said, "let's get the hell out of here, we can do this"...I sure wish I knew his name..that little bit of encouragement got me home, (oh, and 3 kiddos waiting for me) - followed tail lights at a distance and drove in the tire tracks..as I recall, the closer I got to home, the more I could hear the snow on the undercarriage of the car...the next five days were fun - I had plenty of food and wood, the kiddo (10-11-13) had already brought it into the garage from under the back porch...

Civil defense ID meant you were on call for the duration - I knew I would be the last called..kiddos and I love talking about that experience, to this day...

Stay safe all-
