State lawmaker proposes bridge toll tax credit for commuters

NYACK – Motorists who must cross a bridge for their daily commute to work would receive an annual $250 maximum toll tax credit under a plan proposed by State Senator David Carlucci (D, Nanuet). He unveiled the proposal in Nyack on Friday.

That would mean that a person who crosses the Tappan Zee Bridge 20 times per month and pays $3 per crossing with E-ZPass, would see their annual bill drop from $720 to $470.

A person crossing the Rip Van Winkle, Kingston-Rhinecliff, Mid-Hudson, Newburgh-Beacon or Bear Mountain bridges would wind up paying nothing after the credit and persons crossing the George Washington Bridge would wind up paying $2,390 annually instead of $2,640.

The tax credit would also be applicable to the Harriman, New Rochelle and Yonkers tolls on the Thruway.

I think the federal government should immediately begin the procedure of getting another bridge built nearby, to prevent future criminal power plays by psychopaths in government positions.
