Chancellor Zimpher sets ambitious goals in State of SUNY address

By Richard Moody

In her 2014 State of the University Address, SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher announced several new programs she says will further SUNY's stature in the country.

Those in attendance at Zimpher's address included Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy, Chairman of the State University of New York Board of Trustees Carl McCall and President of the State University of New York Student Assembly and SUNY Trustee Tremayne Price, who received lots of applause from the audience of students, college administrators and faculty.

Price, a 23-year-old University of Albany graduate student in the Education Administration and Policies program, showed support for past programs such as Smart Track, which is meant to guide students and parents through the financial aid process, and NYSUNY 2020, which established a consistent tuition increase every year for five years in order to make financial planning easier for students.

Some of Zimpher's goals for the coming year include a paid internship initiative, a vast online education program and a special task force to increase diversity in the SUNY system.
