Mayor de Blasio Faces Questions About Transparency, Vows To Make More Events Public

BY ANNIE KARNI

Mayor de Blasio faced tough questions about his administration's transparency after speaking before the pro-Israel lobby AIPAC Thursday night and leaving it off his public schedule -- the latest in a string of events and appearances he makes but does not announce.

“I’ve been scrupulous about telling you where I am, in terms of which city I am in,” de Blasio told reporters at a press conference Friday afternoon, insisting he has been transparent. But he promised to do more to alert the public about instances where he delivers major speeches.

“We certainly will improve our information system to let you know about something like the AIPAC speech,” he conceded. “We will do that.”

On Thursday night, he spoke of the deep connection the U.S. shares with Israel.
