Assembly reintroduces Women's Equality Act

By MATTHEW L. McKIBBEN and TIFFANY BROOKS

Supporters of women's health care rights convened in the Empire State Plaza Monday urging lawmakers to pass the Women's Equality Agenda. Advocates for the bill in the Senate and Assembly addressed a large and vocal crowd detailing the salience of a woman's right to "choose", the need for improved family health planning and the value of quality reproductive services.

The Women's Equality Act, a 10-point plan, failed to become law in 2013 due to the abortion amendment in the bill that states women can abort a baby at any time during the pregnancy if her health is seriously jeopardized. The Republican controlled senate split up and then introduced the act and ten separate bills only passing 9 of the 10.
