Leaders Discuss Different Way To Fund A Campaign Public Finance System, Sources Say

KEN LOVETT
From Glenn Blain and myself:

State Senate leaders are considering different options that could breathe new life into the push for the creation of a state campaign public financing system.

The leaders are discussing the possibility of using unclaimed money and recoveries from different settlements to fund the measure rather than direct taxpayer support, multiple sources familiar with the talks say.

The five dissident Democrats who control the chamber with the Republicans want a public finance initiative included in the chamber's budget resolution. The GOP has been fighting it, which is said to be a key reason why there has been no deal reached on a Senate budget resolution.
