complaining for two weeks about "a strong gas smell". That odor is deliberately added to gas so that people can detect leaks. Nothing was done for at least two weeks.

If this had been in a gentrified section of Harlem it would have been fixed in hours.

What you always hear when things like this happen is the question, "How can this be prevented from happening in the future?"
The answer, years ago, for the gas industry was to add the sulfur "egg" smell because the gas is odorless. Well it did no good here. The sulfur smell is what was reported by the people there.

One answer. Solar energy does not explode and, in the name of saving lives, the fossil fuel industry needs to stop their lobbying to suppress the expansion of alternative energy. They fear they are cutting their own throats if they don't fight alternatives. But what they are really doing is polluting the planet and killing people. It's damn barbaric!

I remember we had a gas explosion 22 years ago here that killed 3 people. Solar energy is the was to go.
