Hurley Town Board sets public hearing on proposed fracking moratorium for March 19

William J. Kemble

HURLEY >> Town Board members will take comments March 19 on a proposed moratorium of hydraulic fracturing activities.

The session is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Town Hall at 10 Wamsley Place.

Town officials changed set the public hearing in February, telling hydraulic fracturing – or fracking – opponents that new information lead to the decision that rules governing the practice should be developed. A month earlier, they declined to set a moratorium, citing opinions from consultants.

Supervisor Gary Bellows was not immediately available to discuss the proposed moratorium, which was initially drafted in October.
