SAFE Act spending: $7M so far on database

Joseph Spector

The state last year allocated $27.7 million for the implementation of a database and technology to support the state’s gun-control law, and $7 million as already been spent, Assembly Ways and Means Chairman Denny Farrell, D-Manhattan, said today.

Farrell was questioned during the budget debate about the spending on the controversial gun law, known as the SAFE Act.

State Police Commissioner Joseph D’Amico in January noted the $27 million figure and that another $3.2 million is allocated in the 2014-15 fiscal year, which starts tomorrow.
