Photos from 6-24-2013 Moral Mondays Protest (I went!)

You can see all the photos in my album here: http://sevenbowie.imgur.com/ (click on the MMNC_20130624 album). There are a few of the photos below. Go to the album to see the rest. Some of them are blurry and will be removed eventually. I did not enhance or spend too much time sorting through them before posting, so what you see is how it was!

I went along with a neighbor that had gone in previous weeks and been arrested, so she knew the routine. I didn't get arrested - I just went along to protest and support those who did - cheering them as they went into the legislature building and as they were driven out on the prison bus.

The 'theme' today was labor and women's rights. Besides Rev. Barber, David Price spoke, along with members of NC labor unions, women's rights advocates, unemployed North Carolinians whose benefits are about to run out, and other spiritual leaders.

THERE WILL BE ANOTHER PROTEST NEXT MONDAY - because that's the day 70,000+ North Carolinians lose their unemployment insurance.

(I'm not sure if it's 70,00 or 170,00 - I've seen both numbers used but either way, it's too damn many people to toss into destitution just because they can't find work in a state with the 5th highest unemployment rate).

They've asked protesters on July 1 to bring non-perishable food for those families who will suffer under these cuts and need help feeding themselves. Canned goods, beans, rice, etc.

NCNAACP's FB page has a flyer up about this next protest (the 9th one):
