Gov. Perdue has vetoed fracking...

Just got email from http://www.ncconservationnetwork.org/ saying Gov. Perdue has vetoed the fracking legislation the state's GOP tried to fast-track through - they don't appear to have the votes to override her veto. However, you can bet that fracking bills will be re-introduced every year at least until or unless one passes -- public health, environmental concerns and property owner rights be-damned. Profits of gas companies will take precedence over all else. That's GOP M.O.

That means us NC'linians will have to remain ever-involved and vigilant in calling/writing/pressuring against it if we want to keep fracking out of NC. And, for God's sake vote Dem every chance you get! (unless the Dem supports fracking of course - then vote for a different Dem!)

Fracking illegal everywhere. Oil spills are bad enough, but fucking with drinking water is another thing.

Fracking sucks no matter how you slice it, but that aspect of it just boggles the mind.

I love North Carolina, the mountains especially, and am very glad to hear this.

It will be a battle, probably for decades, but it must be fought.

The link below seems to not work from DU, it works from my computer.
It goes to the webpage of "Environment North Carolina" where there is a page to thank our Governor.

Sorry the link is useless, I tried posting it twice, after checking. I give up.

Bullshit, Dallas Woodhouse/Americans for Prosperity. Highly skilled workers will be brought in from OUTSIDE North Carolina, like with the poorly managed Medicaid contract.

Perdue vetoes controversial fracking bill
http://www.wral.com/news/state/nccapitol/story/11269702/

It's the second time Perdue has stopped legislation that would move the state toward fracking. Last year, she vetoed a proposal with far fewer safeguards. Republican leaders have not yet been able to override that veto.

Perdue has vetoed two other major bills in recent days – the Racial Justice Act repeal, and the state budget. Lawmakers are expected to attempt to override all three vetoes Monday or Tuesday.

Wow, this is good news, but damn, make those phone calls Monday and Tuesday!

...the damn Keystone XL will give the US "good paying energy jobs" (mostly no-benefit temp jobs filled by people from out of state or even out of the country).

What a crock 'O crap.

Did you read the recent N&O article about the Medicaid contract that's rapidly approaching $1 BILLION? The one in which the "state-of-the-art" program is being written in COBOL? And only two community colleges in NC even teach COBOL? And well over half of the contracted employees are from India (nothing against Indians, they gotta work, too...). The incompetence in this state is STAGGERING.
