Loose on the Fourth of July - let Freedom ring
CLEMMONS, N.C. -
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center officials are trying to recapture a monkey that escaped from an animal holding facility southeast of Clemmons.
The first public sighting of the 16-year-old female monkey, about the size of a domestic cat, was reported Monday in the area of Rivergate Court and Loop Road, Baptist officials said.
The monkey was spotted again in the same area Tuesday morning.
Veterinarians from Baptist, as well as animal control officers from both Davidson and Forsyth counties, have gone to the area, about 2 miles from the facility where she escaped.
Animal control officers tried to use a tranquilizer on the wild animal Monday night, but it didn't work. Animal control also has set out live traps with fruit to try to lure her.
