(6,109 posts)Lots of us have jokingly called it Elf land ever since we were kids. It's hard to see the name on signs and not picture the wee folk.
It's over near Mebane. Somehow the combo seemed even funnier as a kid, especially if you didn't now how to pronounce Mebane.

i don't know where Mebane is either. but i've been told that efland is near hillsborough?

(6,109 posts)These towns, from east to west, are Hillsborough, Efland, Mebane, Graham, and Burlington. They are about 6-8 miles apart, more or less along the route of the NC Railroad.
The route of the NC Railroad defines NC more than any natural feature except the large general features of the coast and of the mountains. The main part of its route is referred to as the Piedmont Crescent.

(28,770 posts)i've been here almost 5 years - 5 years pretty much spent driving the same stretch of the 540/40 to work and back all that time. i've been to the mountains and i've been to the seashore, but i haven't been around here all that much.
