An ominous evening for Republicans in North Carolina

And it was a big night for them {Democrats} in North Carolina. Progressive candidates swept the mayoral races in major cities, including in Charlotte where Democrat Vi Lyles defeated Republican Kenny Smith by almost 20 points in a race that the North Carolina Republican Party invested in and that conservative pundits were forecasting to be close with some even saying Smith would win.

He didn’t come close.

The growing consensus about Tuesday night is that people were motivated to show up at their polls to vote against President Trump and the policies he is pursuing and the politicians who are aligned with him.

Exit polls in Virginia showed health care was the top issues on voters’ minds and they are not happy with the Republicans attempts to dismantle the Affordable Care Act.

People in North Carolina are not happy about it either and they have soured on Trump and the Republicans too, with Democrats holding a significant lead on the generic ballot in recent polls, even ones conducted by conservative groups.

Many of us either didn't see the red wave coming or we ignored the signs like the repubs are doing today.

Gov. Roy Cooper will, I hope, have a Democratic legislature and veto-proof majority to work with after 2018. Then they can start to work UNdoing the goddamned power-grabbing, money-grubbing crap the Repigs have shat all over that state.

Burr and Tillis need to go NOW. Two worst senators in the country -- both are BIG recipients of NRA bribes.

In 2010 as repubs swept the country, we saw what disaffected voters can do. I truly believe that many repubs who voted for them election after election are dying out & those behind them lean left. By Dems taking over state houses, county positions and cities we are building a great group of folks to take over House and Senate seats to stop trump et al. I have been waiting since reagan for this to happen.

powers from our Governor that every other governor in NC history has enjoyed. I can't wait till 2018. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that much like VA, we'll come out in such huge numbers that the current gerrymandered districts won't even matter. Throw the bums out!
