State policies fail the poor, official says

The state's safety-net programs have not been meeting poor Ohioans' basic needs due to drastic changes in state and federal policies, according to Jack Frech, director of Athens County Job and Family Services.

Repressive work policies and benefit reductions have resulted in a loss of more than $570 million a year from the poorest families and the poorest communities in the state, he charged in testimony that he presented in Columbus on Wednesday.

As a result of these policies, poor families have lost out on more than $400 million in food assistance, he said. Also, 100,000 recipients, including 60,000 children, have been cut off cash assistance since January 2011, he said.

During Wednesday's Senate hearing on the goals of the new Office of Human Services Innovation, Frech will urge legislators to add a goal that would assure "basic human needs are met for all Ohioans."

1. Kashits has to find some way to pay for the tax breaks

he gives to corporations and companies that are currently in the state and new ones that want to come here.

That is also how, along with cutting funding to cities, towns, communities, counties, schools, etc.(AKA a back-door tax hike), he has "eliminated" the state debt and turned it into a "surplus".

All the affected areas where the cuts occurred have to do is try to raise monies through taxes and levies. That way the sleazeball can say that he eliminated the debt without, him personally, raising taxes.

I can't even stand looking at that bag of water. He reminds me of Bush the Lesser in his posture and demeanor.

My wife and I have just recently been affected by some of those cuts to food stamps.

When both of us are totally disabled and can't work, it makes it rough.

That's what happens when you play by the rules and report everything.

Maybe a different mindset is in order.

Take care.

2. Let's hope Ohioans have had enough of Kasich

I know the election will be a tough fight but Kasich has GOT to go.

I'm sorry to hear how you've been affected by these reichwing policies. Let's hope that's all about to change, and soon!

3. Yes

From what I've read and heard it could be tough.

We can only hope that enough voters get motivated, get educated, then can get to the polls in spite the voting rules changes that have been made or the rethugs might try to make before Nov.

I don't put anything past them.

Thank You.

4. The GOP is all about voter suppression

Making voting as difficult as possible for minorities, seniors, citizens with disabilities and the poor is the GOP's modus operandi. A good turnout will be critical but I suspect there will be real problems at the polls if the GOP suspects its going to lose Ohio.
