Mayor Frank Jackson sees Cleveland as a successful city poised on greatness

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The city of Cleveland can be proud of its success and is no longer viewed by outsiders as "a mistake," but hard work still lies ahead to make the city truly great, Mayor Frank Jackson said Thursday in his state-of-the-city address.

Jackson didn't make any explosive announcements at the event, sponsored by the City Club of Cleveland. But he reinforced his view that the city is in a good place, ready to take the next steps forward.

"The city of Cleveland has become a successful city. We've come a long way," Jackson told a sold-out crowd of 950 people at Cleveland Public Auditorium. "We're looked at as a place to be," he said.

The next steps

No longer do people consider Cleveland as a mistake or a joke, Jackson said. Budgets are stable, the school district reform program is making headway and downtown has enjoyed newfound success.
