Did quake rattle county?

Did an earthquake shake houses in Cambridge and Byesville Sunday evening? Ohio seismologists are trying to determine so.

A reader sent the following email to The Daily Jeffersonian:

"Tonight (Sunday) at approximately 10:20 p.m. many Byesville and Cambridge residents felt their homes rumble and shake and a noise that sounded like something had crashed on the roof. My daughter and I live in Byesville in a mobile home park. We were watching TV and the entire house shook and it sounded as though a tree had fell on the roof. We rushed outside fully expecting to have a downed tree on our house and found nothing. However many of our neighbors were outside investigating the same thing. No one found anything. When I came back in I logged onto my Facebook and there were instantly about 20 friends spread around Byesville and Cambridge who had experienced the same thing. My son works at Arby's and felt the same shaking and windows rattling. Friends who work at Walmart had the same experience. When the sheriff's department was contacted they said that they had received calls from the area about the same thing. We all wondered if it could have been a fracking related earthquake. I am just wondering if you had gotten any reports of anything that might explain the rumbling and shaking."

The Daily Jeffersonian contacted Dr. Timothy Leftwich, a geophysicist with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Geological Survey. He said seismographs would be reviewed in an effort to identify a seismic event.
